10 Reasons To Try Low Toxin Living
Better your whole family’s quality of life with low toxin living!
When thinking about transitioning to a low-toxin lifestyle, it’s important to remember your WHY. Lower toxins in your life has so many benefits for your health and well-being, but sometimes we need more for motivation. I found my WHY when battling infertility. I was ready to try anything to have a baby even if it meant giving up some of my favorite treats and products. Little did I know how worth it making those changes would truly be. Not only was I able to get pregnant, but I felt SOO MUCH BETTER! I didn’t realize I had been living with low level pain and breathing difficulties until they weren’t there any more.
Now, my WHY has changed. I have two beautiful babies. I want to be able to be the best mama for them and to stave off the autoimmune issues I have from getting any worse. I’ve found that this is a little harder to stay motivated at times, but all it takes is a day or two of not great eating habits for my body to remind me of how worth it it really is.
What’s your “WHY?”
What’s your WHY? Are you wanting to improve your mood? Do you want to have more energy to play with your children? Stave off or improve chronic health conditions? You want to be a better parent or spouse? Take some time to figure out why your are making these changes. Weight loss is often an added bonus to changing your lifestyle, but in my experience have only weight loss as a motivator can lead to short lived changes. Incorporate weight loss into your wellness goals, but look big picture as well in order to truly change your life in the long term.
You know your personal WHY for getting started, but what are some of the known advantages of making these changes? Let’s dive in…
So many reasons to kick toxic products out of your life…
Toxins are harmful substances that can be found in various aspects of our daily lives, including in the food we eat, the air we breathe, the products we use, and the environments we live in. Here are some reasons why I encourage others to adopt a low-toxin lifestyle:
Improved Overall Health:
When you decrease or eliminate the toxins in your body better overall health is the result! Toxins, such as heavy metals, pesticides, and synthetic chemicals, can accumulate in the body over time and contribute to various health issues, including chronic diseases, allergies, and hormonal imbalances.
Reduced Risk of Chronic Diseases
So many people are sick. It’s become “normal” to be one several medications for chronic diisease or illness. This wasn’t the case 100 or even 50 years ago! Many toxins have been linked to chronic diseases like cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders. Minimizing toxin exposure can lower the risk of developing these conditions. Research is now indicating that chronic diseases may be tied to toxin exposure rather than just “genes” or hereditary.
Better Immune Function
Toxins weaken the immune system, making the body more vulnerable to infections and illnesses. I truly believe adopting a low-toxin lifestyle has helped support stronger immune systems for my family. Additionally, we incorporate holistic options like Earthley tinctures and essential oils to support our immune systems. This year, we’re kicking those daycare germs butts!
Increased Energy
Are you feeling low energy? Is the idea of changing your lifestyle overwhelming? I get it! But even a few small changes can help increase energy. Detoxifying the body from harmful substances has lead to increased energy levels and improved overall vitality in my life.
Environmental Considerations
Reducing your toxin footprint not only benefits your health but also the environment. Many toxins, such as those in pesticides and pollutants, can harm ecosystems, wildlife, and water sources.
Better Mental Health
Some toxins, like heavy metals, can negatively affect mental health and cognitive function. Reducing toxin exposure may lead to improved mental clarity and emotional well-being. There’s new research supporting the link between reducing toxins/taking on clean living habits and better outcomes for those suffering from anxiety and depression!
- Pregnancy and Child Development: Avoiding toxins is especially important for pregnant women and young children, as exposure during these critical periods can have long-term effects on development and health. I wish I had had more information on toxins while I was pregnant. I had begun my lower toxin lifestyle but pretty much survived on cheerios! (Hello glyphosate!) Check out my article on easy lower toxin swaps for babies and toddlers for specific ideas.
- Reduced Allergies and Sensitivities: Toxins in food, personal care products, and the environment can trigger allergies and sensitivities in some individuals. A low-toxin lifestyle can help alleviate these issues. I didn’t realize how tufted up I was from dealing with environmental allergies until I did the autoimmune protocol. After ridding my body of the foods causing me inflammation, I could breath and sleep so much better!
- Save Money: Reducing the use of toxic chemicals and products saves money! Many people worry that going clean is too expensive. While it can be challenging at times when looking at food items at the grocery store, making changes to the household products you use can be very money savvy. Instead of spreading $15 on a set of disinfecting wipes, I can spend $15 on natural cleaning items I put together at home for the whole month or more!
