Crafting Dad’s Day: 10 Essential Oil DIY Gifts He’ll Love
Dad deserves to have healthy and natural gifts too! I’ve put together some DIY projects using essential oils to give Dad easy, natural, and personalized Father’s Day gifts!
When I first started on my journey of “clean up” my habits and especially my beauty products, I began to realize that men aren’t immune from the high levels of toxins in their products either! We are continually working to improve our wellness by lowering our toxin exposure, and utilizing essential oils to make our own products has made such a difference! It’s so much cheaper and easy to personalize scents and health benefits to exactly what myself and my hubby need at the time. These DIY essential oil gifts are perfect for introducing healthier items to the Dads in your life or giving them even more natural and healthy items than they already have!
- Beard Oil: I don’t know if it’s trendy anymore or not, but I love my hubby’s beard. Craft a nourishing and toxin free beard oil for Dad using a blend of carrier oils like jojoba or argan oil, and add essential oils (5-10 drops per 1 oz glass bottle) such as cedarwood, sandalwood, or peppermint for a refreshing scent. Package it in a small glass bottle with a dropper for easy application.
- Aftershave Balm: Make a soothing aftershave balm using 1/4 cup shea butter, 2 Tbl coconut oil, and 2 Tbl aloe vera gel. Add essential oils like lavender, tea tree, or bergamot for their calming and antibacterial properties. Use a double boiler method to melt shea butter and coconut oil. Remove from heat and cool slightly before adding in the aloe vera and 5-10 drops of essential oils. Package it in a tin or jar for easy use.
- Shoe Deodorizer Spray: Maybe it’s just at my house, but sometimes shoes get stinky! Create a natural shoe deodorizer spray using 3 parts distilled water, 1 part witch hazel, and essential oils (6-8 drops per ounce of dilution liquids) with antibacterial properties like tea tree, eucalyptus, or lemon. Pour it into a spray bottle and decorate it with a Father’s Day-themed label.
- Relaxing Bath Salts: Mix 2 cups of Epsom salt with 10-20 drops of essential oils to create a relaxing bath soak. (Please note you can’t just put oil straight into the bath. Always put in the Epsom salt first.) Favorite oils to use for soaks in our house are doTerra’s Deep Blue, Frankincense, and Lavender. Package it in a mason jar with a ribbon and a personalized label. For added moisturizing, add a little carrier oil such as jojoba or fractionated coconut oil. Don’t forget to give dad the time to take the bath and actually relax too! 🙂
- Muscle Relief Massage Oil: Blend carrier oils like sweet almond or fractionated coconut oil, with 5- 8 drops of essential oils known for their muscle-relaxing properties, like peppermint, eucalyptus, or rosemary. Or make it simpler and just use Deep Blue which is the perfect blend for sore muscles. Pour it into a glass roller bottle and attach a label with a massage technique guide for added value. My hubby works a very physical job and uses his “muscle roller” in combination with a massage gun to steer clear of injuries and pain. The Dad in your life will love it too!
- DIY Cologne or Perfume: Traditional colognes contain toxic fragrances. Dad can say no to toxins and still smell great. Create a customized cologne using a blend of carrier oils like fractionated coconut oil and 5-8 drops of essential oils with masculine scents, such as cedarwood, bergamot, or patchouli. Package it in a small spray bottle or rollerball for easy application.
- Sleep Spray: Make a calming sleep spray using distilled water and essential oils like lavender, chamomile, and cedarwood. Spray it on pillows and bedding to promote relaxation and restful sleep. Package it in a spray bottle with a decorative label.
- Natural Bug Repellent: Mix witch hazel with insect-repelling essential oils such as citronella, lemongrass, or peppermint. Pour it into a small glass or aluminum spray bottle and decorate it with a Father’s Day-themed label for outdoor adventures. Don’t want to make your own? - Homemade Soap: Create handmade soap bars using a melt-and-pour soap base and essential oils for fragrance. Choose scents like sandalwood, vetiver, or cedarwood for a masculine touch. Mold the soap into shapes like stars or hearts and wrap them in decorative paper.
- Stress Relief Roll-On: Combine carrier oils like fractionated coconut oil with calming 5- 8 drops of essential oils such as lavender, bergamot, or frankincense to create a stress relief roll-on. We love doTerra’s Adaptiv blend for stress and anxiety in our household too. Package it in a rollerball bottle for convenient application on pulse points.
